Started in Munich
I really don‘t know why I look so grumpy. Not the enthusiasm you’d expect from a “I’m just starting a month-long stretch where I do nothing but bike in beautiful places“ face. It was there though, I promise. I was giddy. I spent the first hour giggling my way out of Munich and into the Bavarian countryside. Which is quite nice, by the way!
I spent the next few hours riding through rolling hills or alongside nearly overflowing rivers from the previous two days of rain. It was mostly on roads, but I did get to ride a little gravel, which was lovely.
Wound up at Chiemsee (Lake Chiem)
The final hour or so I spent (admittedly quite slowly) approaching the mountains and the gorgeous Lake Chiem they watch over. Sadly, it‘s school holiday and thus high-season here, so I was unable to snag a hotel or camping spot near the lake, which meant I needed to ride 10 km further down the road to find a place to sleep which wasn‘t absurdly priced. I‘ve already thrown so much money away on this trip (mostly the 1000€ to replace all the parts that were stolen off my bike while I was in the US), I nearly considered adopting a “To hell with it“ attitude and dropping the 200€ a night to stay in a mid-level hotel on the lake. But I didn‘t, which was good, because…
…it meant that I needed to bike back to the lake for dinner (and the obligatory, celebratory beer of course), giving me the opportunity to see this glorious landscape on my sunset-ride back to my hotel. And also because extra kilometers, because I‘m a glutton for punishment :)
