Here we go again!

First…welcome back. Or something like that. Been a while since I‘ve used this medium of communications. Apologies to those of you who‘ve forgotten I exist and who will rightly be confused when this pops up in your inboxes. So it goes.

The last year has been, well, I don‘t have to tell you. Still, some folks are luckier than others, have come through for whatever reason more easily than others, and I count myself among them. I‘ll leave it that, since that‘s not the point of this blog. No. This blog is about cycling and the random nonsense that passes through my head while I ride. Yessssss.

Tour 2

Tour 1 kicked ass, so naturally, I wanted to go again. Not that I need excuses to do such spurious things, but fortunately, I had plenty anyway. With good friends in Milan that I hadn‘t seen in a while, and good friends on vacation in the middle of Switzerland who wanted me to visit, and with other good friends inviting Vera and me to stay a week with them in the Alsace region of France, the puzzle pieces just sort of fell into place. The only possible conclusion was to ride from Milan to the Alsace with a stop-over in Lenk (Switzerland). Obviously. I‘m sure you all would come to similar conclusions.

So I boxed up the bike, packed the bike bags as my carry-ons, and off I went.

Preparation and mindset

On the eve of such an excursion, one might expect to relax a bit, eat healthy (carbo loading with pasta), not drinking alcohol, etc. If you knew my friends and/or how much I love pizza, you‘d know that such a reasonable approach would be impossible. Instead, it was spritz, beer, pizza, wine, grappa, chips, cured meats, gelato, more pizza, more beer, and chatting long into the night. I‘ve given myself an extra kilo of energy stores to pack over the alps, haha. Still, worth it. It‘ll help me slow down and enjoy the view even more.

So…not much more to say. Life is beautiful. Italy, Switzerland, France, and Germany are beautiful. Mountains are challenging. Wine is delicious. Hopefully I won‘t disappoint with some lovely photos and entertaining, loose-lipped ramblings. Until then…
